Taking It In is based on Baynards Cove in Dartmouth. I wanted to create the feeling that the rest of the world is just out there past the mouth of the river. The sun sparkles on the water, yachts and boats play and in the foreground boys are crabbing. When I sketched this on location there was a little boy crabbing by the wall and so this inspired the boys crabbing in the final piece. I loved painting the colourful cobbles and details - the cat and mouse are hiding behind the canon, Sophie and Goose are sat on the wall with a crab in their bucket and there is a nod to me painting the picture on the right of the walkway.
