I loved painting this scene as it so unique to have both the countryside and sea, a viaduct, steam train and vintage style beach huts all in one place! It was an artist's dream! I wanted to capture the momentum of the majestic steam train puffing along what is one of the UK’s most iconic steam train trips. From the resort town of Paignton to the stunning naval town of Dartmouth, this journey takes in the best of the English Riviera. I’ve chosen to paint the train on the beautiful Broadsands viaduct, built in 1861, which towers above the South West coast path. The colourful beach huts on Broadsands beach are pictured below, along with lots of people enjoying a lovely day out at the seaside.
