I studied Fine Art and Illustration at Aberyswyth University of Wales, and this painting is based on my time there and the promenade in Aber. If you look closely you will see an easel at a window, where I lived and used to paint and, in fact, where I wrote and illustrated my first book, Goose. In the foreground Goose and Sophie run along the pavement - I wanted them in the forefront of this painting as it is essentially where they were born! Other characters from the stories are in there too, and there is a nod to an artist sat drawing on one of the benches. Constitution Hill and the funicular railway tower over the victorian houses. Funnily enough I never went on the railway as I was so poor as a student, but I walked up the hill lots!!
