About Us
My name is Laura Wall and I am an award-winning artist, illustrator and author with a studio and gallery based in the seaside town of Teignmouth, Devon. I work with my husband, Dave and together we run our art gallery where I can often be found painting or writing.
Teignmouth is a beautiful and inspiring place with a vibrant community and incredible landscape, and it has been the focus of many of my pen and watercolour paintings. However, I have also painted many other scenic places and created products inspired by our iconic British seaside as well as finding inspiration internationally, like Paris, Venice and Rome.
Biography
I’ve always loved painting – my mum says I was born with a pencil in my hand! In 2003 I received a scholarship to Aberystwyth University of Wales to study fine art and illustration, and it was here I wrote and illustrated my first children’s book, Goose. After uni I tried my hand in the world of television editing, but nothing fulfilled me the way that art did. So, in 2010 I took the leap to try and make it on my own as an artist. Just a year later and 20 galleries were stocking my work and I had a genuine income to allow me to do what I loved!
Since then I’ve had a number of sell out shows, won Britain’s Best Up and Coming Artist (Fine Art Trade Guild) in 2013 and National Entrepreneur of the Year (Venus Women’s Awards) in 2016. In 2015 I also opened my own gallery, which has now tripled in size and can be found in the heart of Teignmouth’s Arts Quarter. Voted Devon’s Best Gallery twice by Muddy Stiletto readers, we promise we are well worth a visit!
My Journey as a Children’s Book Illustrator
As well as my pen and watercolour series, I am also known for my published children’s book series: Goose, published by Award Publications. There are now 14 books in the series and it can be found all around the world, translated in 16 languages and sold in over 40 countries.
Every year I have the joy of visiting schools in the UK and internationally where I lead creative writing and art workshops with children, read my stories and undertake book signings with the aim to inspire children.
I have been invited to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, Thailand and Indonesia to name a few of the wonderful places, and I have had the privilege of working with some of the best schools in the world.
